Lane Creeps are the first of two types of creeps in Dota 2. A group or wave of Lane Creeps spawns in each lane every 30 seconds that will advance through their lane and attack the opposing creep wave, tower, or hero.
There are three types of lane creeps: Melee, Ranged and Siege. Melee creeps spawn in larger numbers and have more health and less damage than ranged creeps.
Ranged creeps have lower health, but deal more damage and are able to attack from a distance. A wave of creeps start out with three melee creeps and one ranged creep.
Once the game hits the minute mark, each creep wave gets an additional melee creep. More creeps are added to each wave at every minute interval until the minute mark, at which point and onwards each wave has six melee creeps and two ranged creeps.
Unlike Lane Creeps, Neutral Creeps are not aligned with either Radiant nor Dire and will attack any unit or hero that strays into their lairs.

Like regular spells, they cannot be used in this case, turned on or off while affected by disables which prevent ability usage. Point target abilities require the caster to target a point or an area.
Point targeting abilities can have very varying effects. For some spells, it merely determines the direction to launch an effect, for other spells it determines an exact point where an effect will be applied.
Area target abilities work like point target abilities , with the only difference being that they require the caster to target a whole area , instead of a point.
Upon cast, these abilities usually affect the whole targeted area, or all units in the area. Some apply their effects once upon cast, and some apply a lasting effect which affects units which enter the area after cast.

Note that heroes can also attack their own creeps if they are below 50 percent HP—and score last hits on them as well. Successfully denying a creep means that any enemy heroes in the vicinity will get absolutely no gold from the creep, because they will be unable to land the killing blow themselves.
DOTA 2 can be an extremely daunting game for new people to get into. They see an enormous hero pool, hundreds of items and hear about a toxic community and are immediately put off.
